Hair is the most deeply psychological part of the body; if your hair looks and feels fantastic, you do too.
Healthy hair is crucial to your wellbeing
Whether curly or straight, blonde, red or brunette, short, medium or long… the truth is no matter what your hair type - healthy hair is stronger, shinier and easier to style.
Healthier hair, now and forever
When we think of healthy hair, everyone wants the hallmark! Beautiful hair is lustrous and that reflecting light and radiant.
In reality healthy hair goes much deeper- It’s your diet, your lifestyle, actually in everything you do!
While its only hair, we all know that a shift in its condition, its volume, the way it behaves, the way it falls – or falls out – instantly affects our mood because it’s a part of our look we simply cannot hide, or control.
What can we do?
It’s like healthy gums = healthy teeth.
Your hair and scalp are the first things to suffer when the body lacks vitamins and minerals – making hair like dull and lacklustre.
Never underestimate the effect of a diet can have on your hair. A low fat diet is possibly the worst thing for your hair. Make sure you get plenty of vitamins, E, B6, and B12 EFA’s (Essential Fatty acids, such as omega-3 in fish), selenium and zinc.
Hair consists of Keratin, a protein, and simple changes in your diet can have a direct effect on your hair. A diet too low in protein may cause thinning or weakness in the hair. Likewise, a protein rich diet will often result in thicker, stringer, longer hair. Good protein sources include fish, eggs, pulses and yoghurt. Soy protein such as tofu has also been found to help stimulate hair growth.
Common Myths
Washing fine hair regularly will not cause it to fall out. You might notice hair falling out, but these are hairs that are ready to come out as it is normal for each of us to lose 80-100 hairs a day…but as each follicle can contain up to 6 hairs it does not leave us with empty follicles.
Leaving your hair unwashed is likely to result in greater hair loss over time as the hair/scalp becomes greasy; in the worst case scenario the sebum glands clog the hair roots and may cause excessive hair loss and dandruff. The causes for an excessive sebum production are heredity, unhealthy eating habits, medications or improper hair care.
Dandruff can form whether the scalp is too dry or too oily, but more often due to the latter (caused by an overgrowth of the fungus malassezia) which is why regular shampooing, (with an appropriate anti-dandruff formula) can be key. Leave shampoo on a few minutes before rinsing to allow active ingredients to work. Rinse thoroughly.
